Hilton Head Island is synonymous with world-class golf. Such a distinction has made this 42 square mile island a golfer's paradise.

An estimated 1 million rounds of golf are played here annually. Hilton Head Island, itself, boasts 17 public/semi-private golf courses (plus another 8 private courses). Just over the bridge to the Bluffton mainland area are another 6 public courses, and 9 additional private courses. On nearby Daufuskie Island you will find two more picturesque public courses and 2 more private ones.

Not to name drop, but Hilton Head Island golf courses were designed by some of the best. Rees and Robert Trent Jones, and Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player and Robert Cupp, and George and Tom Fazio, and Davis Love III, and Arnold Palmer, Pete Dye and Arthur Hills, to name a few. Even with all the other reasons to come to this island destination, nearly 1/3 of the 2.5 million annual visitors to Hilton Head come here for the golf as a primary attraction.

Since 1969 Harbour Town, in Sea Pines Plantation, has been host to the PGA Tour event (known for years as the Heritage Classic) known today as the Verizon Heritage tournament. Harbour Town Golf Links is famous for the 18th hole. That one amazing hole where golfers stand on the cusp of the Calibogue Sound and play into the red and white stripes of the iconic Lighthouse.

Come and join the fun. Immerse yourself in the beauty and annual tradition of the Verizon Heritage tournament held every April.
